The Gospel by Sarah H.

The gospel is the truth of God, the reality of man's need, the manifestation of Jesus Christ and the simplicity of the plan for redemption.

God is love (1 John 4:8). God is just (Deut. 32:4). God is perfect and holy (Psalms 99:5). God is the creator of heaven and earth (Col. 1:16). God created everything for His glory and His honor (Rev. 4:11). God hates sin and cannot allow it in His presence (Rom. 6:23); but God also loves us (John 3:16).

Man is God's most precious creation (Gen. 1:26). Man was created to glorify and honor God and therefore cannot live a complete or fulfilled life without Him (Matt. 22:37). Man is selfish and proud. Man is sinful (because of Adam and Eve) and therefore needs a way to be redeemed to God. But man cannot reach God on his own (Rom. 5:12).

Jesus Christ is God in human form (Phil. 2:6-7). He came to earth as God's perfect and only son to provide a way for man to reach God. Jesus Christ is the way to God, the truth of the scriptures and eternal life for all who believe (John 14:6). Jesus Christ is the picture of a perfect human - one who never sinned and lived a life completely according to God's plan and totally committed to serving and honoring God (Heb. 4:15; 1 John 3:8).

Because Jesus was equal to God, he loved man too and was willing to lay down his life and suffer and die a horrible and embarrassing death on a cross so that man's sins could be forgiven. But, Jesus did not stay dead (1 Cor. 15:3-4)! As prophesied of him in the Old Testament, Jesus rose from the grave after three days in his tomb so that all who believe on him may now have eternal life (1 John 5:13).

Our response is simple - we must recognize the truth of God (all of Him, not just the parts that make us feel good); we must acknowledge our needy and sinful state as humans (Rom. 3:23); we must believe that Jesus Christ was God/God's son, lived a perfect life, died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sins and rose from the dead three days later to provide us with eternal life. We must accept that our sins separate us from God and that trusting in Jesus is the only way to Heaven and a complete and fulfilling life on earth. We must confess our sins to God, seek His forgiveness through the death of Jesus Christ and commit to live through Him and for Him for the remainder of our days on earth (Rom. 10:9-10).
